  • Each month NDSS Athletics will be recognizing a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics, academics and sportsmanship in the past month. This month the NDSS Student-Athlete of the Month is Rohan. Rising from the ashes like a phoenix from last year’s loss in the wild card game to make provincials, Rohan became a key crucial cog in the midfield for this year’s Sr. Boys Soccer team. Often winning the ball back, making pinpoint accurate passes or scoring clutch goals, Rohan provided much needed dynamic play in the midfield. Rohan’s play was the foundation for the Sr. Boys Soccer team’s deep run during the South Frasers & Provincials, helping them win the South Fraser Championship and finishing 4th in Provincials this year. Rohan’s maturity, belief in the team and willingness to play till the bitter end embodies what it means to be a husky! Let’s congratulate Rohan on this great accomplishment.

  • Congratulations to the Sr Girls Volleyball team on finishing 2nd in tier 2 girls volleyball provincials. After nail-biting victories over Sands & Richmond, the girls lost to Kelowna in the final, although they had shown tremendous resilience & character, battling in the championship game. Despite this, the girls overachieved and had some fantastic play especially considering both Sands & Richmond were higher ranked teams and Sands had defeated our girls twice before defeating them. This is due to the girls’ commitment to excellence and raising their performances when it mattered the most. For example, Elizabeth & Jasleen were named tournament all stars – both having played their best tournament ever while still being in gr.10! Girls, you have made North Delta proud, and we are looking forward to more success in the upcoming years!

Finishing first in their pool after defeating Westview, Walnut Grove & Van Tech, the boys headed into the semi-finals, losing to Burnaby North 2-1 with the deciding goal coming in last few minutes of play. Despite the heartbreak the boys rebounded back in the 3rd place game and put up a strong match against Kitslano, losing to them in penalties and finishing 4th in the province. Special shout out to Lucas for an amazing goal against Kitslano to tie the game up. Regardless, they had a fantastic performance & were worthy of being called Provincial Champions. Stephano was named to the Super 16 Team while Angad had a fantastic tournament being one of the best goalkeepers and Francesco was one of the top goal scorers of the tournament. We are looking forward to more success for the boys soccer program in the future – one step at a time!

An excellent student-athlete, Sachveer excels on and off the court. Through hard work & determination, Sachveer has improved significantly. Playing a pivotal role as the Sr. Girls Volleyball team’s libero, Sachveer has been the rock for the team, being consistent in her play, starting rallies and often being a constant for the team. More so, Sachveer’s leadership helped the team reach the Tier 2 Volleyball Provincials the last two years and now the team prepares for a lengthy run once again. Sachveer is reserved leader, letting her actions speak louder than her words and being a role model for all her teammates. The same can be said inside the classroom as Sachveer has been named to the school honour roll list for the past several years. Let’s congratulate Sachveer on this great accomplishment.

Nearing the end of a tense first half, Stephano had an amazing header securing a 1-0 lead into the second half. To be frank, it could have been a 1-1 halftime score of it wasn’t for the fantastic play of goalkeeper Angad. His timely saves & leadership from the back held the team together. In the 2nd half, the boys were off to the races, with Isaiah & Francesco scoring two goals to secure the win. This is the boys first Fraser valley Championship at the Senior Boys Soccer level since 1998! An amazing accomplishment by an amazing group of individuals. We are proud of you, but the job isn’t finished – next up Provincials!!!
