Academic Strategies 8-12 XLDCA08STR, XLDCA09STR, YPA-0AD37, YPA-1AD37, YPA-2AD37

Academic Strategies is an elective course which is offered at every grade level. In Academic Strategies, students will learn to think more strategically about their academic skills, so they can experience more success as learners as well as personal growth. Along with a focus on homework and studying, students participate in mini-lessons about topics such as developing good work habits, test-taking, self-advocacy, stress management, and more. Whenever possible, the Academic Strategies course will be scheduled in the same semester as the student’s most challenging subjects. We encourage students to talk to their counsellor or a Strategies teacher about whether this course is right for them. Academic Strategies 10, 11, and 12 are each worth four credits towards graduation.

Additional services offered through this course include:

  • Setting academic and personal goals with students through Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) or Learning Plans
  • Offering test adaptations as needed
  • Providing achievement or psycho-educational testing, based on student need
  • Planning for post-secondary education
