The B.C. Ministry of Education requires every B.C. Grade 12 to complete a Grad Transition Plan in order to graduate secondary school. To allow students more flexibility in their schedules, this requirement is completed outside of the timetable. The Ministry also believes that students who are graduating are capable of meeting this requirement on their own. Therefore, there is no class time to work with students or give instruction and feedback.

The Ministry of Education requirements include:

    1. Increasing daily physical activity to 150 minutes per week
    2. Completing 30 hours of volunteer/work experience
    3. Completing the tasks in the ten-page booklet.

In the Delta School District, we have assembled a booklet of instructions and tasks for students to organize their efforts. All schools will be using the booklet to complete the grad transition plan requirement.

At North Delta Secondary, staff believes that students need oral instruction and explanations to help them understand what is required. To that end, North Delta Secondary School Counsellors and Ms. Dhanoa are available to support the Grade 12’s in order to have all students meet this graduation requirement.

It is our desire to accomplish this task before Grade 12’s are involved in the exciting social events of graduating. Other support includes the school website, the Delta District website, and First Class email program.  We ask for co-operation from parents. Please continue to talk with your student after each meeting and to encourage your young people to keep working on the tasks required.<
